During Tuttofood exhibition and the award ceremony of the international competition BIOL  held  in Puglia was presented the New Guide to the Best Organic Olive Oils in the world. The publication is unique , a sum of the international olive growing , with detailed charts on the best extra virgin organic olive oils. A valuable handbook for operators, enterprises and consumers who take care of the quality of the products.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Region Puglia – Department of Agriculture – City of Andria, IFOAM, AgriBio Mediterraneano and CiBi, the traditional annual guide BIOL , in addition to all the winners of the last edition includes an introductory chapter on how to recognize the olive oil (from acidity), followed by substantial section on the best organic extra virgin olive oils – 174 olive oils this year – presented by geographical area and individual tabs. It is possible to find the type of cultivar, the aromatic profile with the weight of the components fruity-bitter-spicy, photos and all business data. The complete picture of the tools, therefore, to choose the olive oil in accordance with taste.

All data are the result of a great job of gathering and selection of BIOL juries and of the international jury (a total of 10 panels with over 100 expert tasters)  supported by chemical analysis and organoleptic characteristics based on the most high standards recognized at international level. The plates were delivered by the representative of Biol Nino Paparella, Marco Sciarrini and Teresa De Matthaeis  - Mipaaf  - Benedetto Miscioscia the Councillor of the City of Andria and Alfredo Marasciulo , coordinator of the BIOL .

With the announcement of the Biol winners, the Biol International Prize ends its eighteenth competition.

This edition was a success for many reasons: the number and the quality of the olive oils participants, 360 from 15 countries and for the International Jury, more and more qualified and expanded to new countries; the interest aroused by the themes of the international conference, followed by a large number of operators; the importance of the BiolKids project , which this year involved the schools in all provinces of Apulia Region and also the Bavarian town of Maisach (the final day, involved more than 600 children in Castel del Monte, engaged in the Laboratories of Sustainability). And yet, for the attention that has been followed by the press, for the high-profile partners, the quality of the entire organization.

But the protagonists remain organic oils: close, thus indicating the page where you find all the winners, with the companies that have been assigned Extragold and Gold Medal and Silver Medal.

The organic olive oil Titone Dop,Trapani-Sicily is the winner of Biol 2013

The organic extra virgin olive oil “Titone DOP Valli Trapanesi” produced by Titone ,Trapani (Sicily) is the winner of  the XVIII Biol Prize. Titone – winner of the event in the past – was the absolute best between 360 oils coming from 15 countries. Second winner “Byodo Andrea Collection” produced by Pruneti (Florence), followed by another Sicilian olive oil , “Terraliva” produced by  Frontino company. Biolpack prize (best coupled-packaging label assigned by a specific panel of experts in communication and consumption) to the Spanish “LA Organic”, the characteristic shape inkwell. BiolKids Prize, awarded by the jury of children, to the Slovenian “Morgan”.

Very good quality for the oils of Puglia, the prize goes to the Apulian organic extravirgin olive oil  ”Piantatella” produced by the homonymous company in Statte-Taranto, while  ”Tenuta Arcamone” produced by De Carlo company located in Bitritto-Bari won the award for the “Best Coratina BIO”. In the top ten also foreign olive oils as the Portuguese “Risca Grande” and the Slovenian “Morgan”. A complete list of all GOLD and SILVER medals will soon be online on www.premiobiol.it.

The winner proclamation was held in “Castel del Monte” – Andria, with the participation  of the Councillor for Culture of the Region Puglia Silvia Godelli, the mayor of Andria Nicola Giorgino and Innovation agricultural councilor of the province of Bari Franco Caputo, within a spectacular frame made from 600 children : Biolkids project ,with training and workshops taste of organic olive oils, involved 24 classes of primary schools in all the provinces of Apulia and even peers from Maisach, Bavaria, forming a baby panel that has joined this morning the international jury to award the olive oil more pleasant for young palates.

“The international jury – said the coordinator of Biol Nino Paparella – found that the quality of the organic olive oils is improving from year to year, with excellence able to overcome the traditional oils. Worth noting is the excellent quality of the fruit: more and more green, rich and fragrant. A good bio-oil, now you can do it everywhere, both in variety and difficult climatic areas not favored. ” The winners and about a hundred oils aggiudicatisi Gold Medals and Silver will be published in the traditional Biol Catalog, then presented the main international fairs.

Tomorrow final event  of Biol Prize, with Castel del Monte invaded by 600 children

Tomorrow final event  of Biol Prize, with Castel del Monte invaded by 600 children in the name of organic olive oil and sustainable consumption, at the 50th World Day of Consumers. Is therefore dedicated to future generations of BiolKids, the closure of the eighteenth edition of the festival competition organized by C.I.BI. on Wednesday in Andria ,world capital of the organic olive oil.

Today the work of the International Jury finish, coordinated by the panel leader Giorgio Cardone: the 27 experts (also from Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Tunisia, USA, Japan, India and China) have evaluated the finalists from among more than 350 olive oils from 15 countries on the backdrop of the traditional exhibition of oils prepared in the Salesian Oratory.

Concluded also the international conference on “organic olive oil as a factor of integrated local development”, with its focus on the growing opportunities in emerging markets as India, China, Brazil and USA, next event is  the spectacular BiolKids day . This is a project with the Department of Agricultural and Food Resources of the Puglia region, which since January has provided training courses and tasting for pupils (and seminars for teachers and teachers) of 24 fourth and fifth classes primary schools in all the provinces of Apulia and – new this year – even the Bavarian town of Maisach.

So, the BiolKids will start at 9.00 in the Oratory, where 26 little juries German-Italian will join senior experts of the BIOL panel to choose the olive oil more palatable to young palates. Then they will reach Castel del Monte at 11.00 a.m.: here some 600 pupils wil animate “Laboratories of land and sustainable village” set up in the Other Village of the Trinitarian Fathers, at the foot of the Castle: up to 3.00 pm, will take turns laboratories “Bomba dei fiori, Seminiamo c’czell, Facciamo le inforchiate”, the human frame, the sensory analysis laboratory of “GustoBus” and animations of the Mosaic BiolKids (all in collaboration with Masseria dei Monelli, Sibilla Potenza, the high schools “Majorana” of Bari and “Colasanto” in Andria).

Finally, after a spectacular human circle of children around the manor, at 12.00 the proclamation of the winners.

The Biol Prize is sponsored by IFOAM and Agribio Mediterrano and promoted by Regione Puglia, Unioncamere Puglia, Chamber of Commerce of Bari and the Municipality of Andria, in collaboration with Gal “Le Città di Castel del Monte, Gal “Murgia Più”, BiolItalia Association, Consorzio Puglia Natura.
